Both of Wednesday’s pitchers are coming off bad starts for their respective teams. Last Friday, Marcus Stroman (4.12 FIP) gave up six earned runs to the A’s (+142) in a 7-8 loss, while Patrick Corbin (5.20 FIP) did the same against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who prevailed 13-7 as –135 road favourites. Toronto is just 2-6 in Stroman’s last eight starts; the Snakes are 7-12 on the season with Corbin and 3-7 in his last 10.
The Blue Jays are still waiting on the return of injured outfielder Jose Bautista (.815 OPS). He’s been out since mid-June with a case of turf toe; the latest word is that Bautista might not be back until early August. His bat will be slightly less important this Wednesday with National League rules in effect, but while Corbin is struggling on the mound, he’s outperforming Bautista at the plate, posting a .825 OPS with 14 hits in 40 at-bats.
