The New England Patriots are a +145 favorite to win Super Bowl 52 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, home to the Minnesota Vikings. Has the betting public learned their lesson yet on betting against the “Killer-B’s”, Belichick and Brady?

Let’s take a look at New England’s upcoming schedule and the NFL ODDS for Week 1. The Patriots are a -7.5 point Home Favorite vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, going back the last 4 years of New England’s first game of the season, they are 1-2-1 ATS with the UNDER being 3-1-0.

New England Patriots Week 1 Games L4Y:

  • 2013 – Week 1: New England 23 Buffalo 21
  • 2014 – Week 1: Miami 33 New England 20
  • 2015 – Week 1: New England 28 Pittsburgh 21
  • 2016 – Week 1: New England 23 Arizona 21

As you can see, the margin of victory for New England in those games is 6 points or less and their only lost was against division rivals, the Miami Dolphins who won the game by a 13 point.

Knowing this, here’s a nice little betting tip against any Super Bowl Champs in Week 1 of the following season. In fact, this betting tip is from my book, Ron Raymond’s 50 Greatest Sports Betting Secrets.

Bet against Super Bowl Teams: Here’s another value type wager… it’s wise to bet against Super Bowl teams in the first 2 games the year after they’ve won the Super Bowl. Bet against the Super Bowl champs because the whole world will be on them the first 2 weeks. The bookmaker knows it and they’ll jack up the line on those teams. I call it the “Last Game Syndrome” wager. When handicapping a game, many look at the last game and say, “Since they beat those guys by 7 points last week, this week, they should crush this team by 20.”

Same type of situation here for the Patriots in Week 1, the betting public will be all over the Killer B’s in and it will be a great “going against” opportunity.
