 Some say the Dayton 500 is known by many as the Great American Race, but true gear heads will tell you it’s the Indianapolis 500 every Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.
Here’s some statistics that will blow you away about this race dubbed by many as "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", is one of the oldest motorsport events in the world. According to Wiki, the official attendance is not disclosed by management, but with a permanent seating capacity for more than 257,000 people and infield seating that raises capacity further to an approximate 400,000, it is the largest single-day sporting event in the world.
One of the amazing stats about this event, Robert Penske as won this race 14 times as an owner and when you think about it, Penske has given his life to Auto Racing and the fact he’s won the race 14 times is remarkable. As for the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24th, last years winner Scott Dixon is your current favorite at 4/1 at TheGreek.com and 3.5 to 1 at Carib Sports. Hélio Castroneves finished in 7th place at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and then an impressive 2nd place finished on April 26th at the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 at the Kansas Speedway. With his teams progression on climbing up the ladder, getting Castroneves at these odds at the Indy 500 is good value, considering he’s won twice at this track in his career. Once the race starts, my money will be on Hélio Castroneves at +350.
