The Phoenix Sports Ticket is a sports handicapping business and Ron Raymond is one of Canada’s most respected sports handicappers. During his tenure as the owner and founder of the Phoenix Sports Ticket, Ron has had the pleasure of hosting his annual NFL Football Contest.
Actually, this years NFL contest will be the 9th Annual NFL Football Contest and is considered one of the longest running football contest on the internet and we’ve had some great NFL Handicappers over the years win this event. In fact, long time friend of the site Bob “BAGIANT” Levine won this event in 2002 and last year in 2008.
Here’s a list of the Past Champions of the Phoenix Sports Ticket NFL Football Contest.
- 1. GM (2001)
- 2. Bagiant (2002)
- 3. Oakas (2003)
- 4. Bobby 29 (2004)
- 5. DJDJ (2005)
- 6. Dew (2006)
- 7. Coreygee (2007)
- 8. Bagiant (2008)
We’ve ran a few formats throughout the years, but the one we’ve gone with the last 3 years is the Pick 7 sides and/or totals format, where contest players rank their football picks from 1 unit to 7 units. The contest player with the most amount of plus (+) units after the 17 week NFL schedule is the winner.
NFL Football Contest Rules
Here’s a recap of the contest football rules for the 9th Annual NFL Football Contest. Players can sign up for this contest after June 1st 2009.
1) In order to join the contest, players must purchase a 1-month membership to ATSDatabase.com to be eligible to enter the PST NFL Football Contest. Once a player has purchased their ATS Database membership, we will confirm their purchase and then they will receive instructions on how to register for the contest.
2) All selections must be made via the online NFL Football contest software. No submissions will be accepted in any other format including email or phone call. No exceptions will be made.
3) The contest will run each week during the NFL regular season and the make picks option will be available after 12-Noon each Wednesday.
4) The contest NFL football odds will be posted each Wednesday between 12:00pm EST and 3:00pm EST. The football contest lines will not be adjusted according to live line moves from the Sportsbooks. The lines you see after 3 pm EST will be the official lines. However, sometimes human error can occur and we may fix the lines if we see a bad line. If contest players see a bad line, please contact Ron Raymond at the office 1 888 778 7425 or email him at Ronraymond@rogers.com.
5) A total of seven (7) NFL football picks must be made each week: Players are allowed any combination of sides and/or totals when making their contest picks.
6) Selections must be submitted by 10:00 pm (CST) Central Standard Time on Saturday night if no Thursday games are being used as a selection. If a contestant is using a Thursday game as a selection, then EVERY PICK that contestant is selecting for the week must be made before kickoff of the 1st game on Thursday. Furthermore, all picks will be viewable to the public on Saturday after the 10pm CST deadline. No Thursday picks will be viewable until after the Saturday "Make Picks" deadline has passed. Therefore, if you make your picks on Thursday, no worries, nobody will see your NFL contest picks until 10:01pm CST Saturday.
7) Selections may NOT be modified. Once a user submits their NFL Football Contest picks, they are official and they cannot be change. Therefore, make sure the picks you enter are the selections you can live with for the week. No changes can be made, once the system accepts your selections, they cannot be altered.
8) Contest players picks must be ranked from 7 units (highest rated play) down to 1 unit (lowest rated play). Therefore, contest plays will be ranked from highest to lowest (7 units, 6 units, 5 units, 4 units, 3 units, 2 units, and 1 unit).
9) All contest plays will be graded as -1.10 plays for losses and +1.00 plays for wins. Therefore, if a 7-unit play you submit loses, it will be graded as a negative -7.70 units. If a 7-unit play wins, that play will be graded as a positive +7.00 units. If a pick pushes/ties, then you will not lose any points, nor will you gain any, you will simply be given a tie status. The breakdown for plays is as follows: The contestant with the highest amount of units won at the end of the NFL Week 17 schedule will be declared the winner. *Note: We do not grant a prize for the contestant with the best overall win/lost record. This is all about the units baby!
Tie Breaker #1: In case of a tie, the person with the most wins will be declared the winner.
Tie Breaker #2: If players have the same amount of wins, then the players will go head to head in Round 1 of the NFL playoffs using 3 picks, instead of 7 picks. The points system will be the same 3 units, 2 units and 1 unit. All picks will be submitted by email to Ron Raymond and the cut off time will be 1 hour prior to the first NFL Playoff game.
Tie Breaker #3: If contest players are tied after the second tie breaker, then they will split the prize money.
10) Players cannot skip a week, as there are NO bye weeks for selections. If a contestant does not make their picks for any given week, the player receives a 0-7 record for -30.80 units.
11) Every Contestant’s selections will be viewed on the Phoenix Sports Ticket NFL contest website each Saturday at approximately 10:00pm (CST) Central Standard Time.
